Jacoba "Co" Leyen

Jacoba "Co" Leyen, formerly of New Windsor and long time area resident, entered into rest on Saturday, March 17, 2012 in Goshen. She was 97. Daughter of the late Pieter and Agatha (Kaandorp) Zwemmer and late stepfather Adrian Schaper, she was born March 6, 1915 in the Netherlands. She married John Leyen on May 6, 1941, who predeceased her in 1990. Co was a parishioner of Church of the Assumption in Maybrook, a member of Catholic Daughters of America, and a member of Senior Group from Blooming Grove and New Windsor. Survivors include her daughters, Agatha (McComb) Cutler and Nellie (DeMarmels) Lindsley and her husband Melvin; her son, Henry Leyen and his wife Barbara; grandchildren, Christopher Leyen and wife Kim, Lynn Cashman and husband William, Albert DeMarmels and wife Melissa, John DeMarmels, Tom DeMarmels and wife Robin and Karen Gauvin and husband David; great-grandchildren, Bryanna, Tristan and Aidan Leyen, Jessica, Kyle and Kelly Cashman, Ashley and Mikayla DeMarmels, Troy and Cody DeMarmels, and Andrew Gauvin; as well as many nieces and nephews here and in Holland. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son-in-law James Cutler, as well as six sisters in Holland. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 22 in Church of the Assumption, Maybrook. Cremation will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh. Burial of ashes will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Washingtonville at a future date.
