Leanne O’Reilly, a business marketing major at Mount Saint Mary College, spends a lot of time “pitching” at her internship with the Hudson Valley Renegades baseball team, and she’s helping local children’s organizations hit homeruns.
O’Reilly stepped up to the plate for the Renegades’ Pitch for Kids program, which supports groups “that make a positive change in youth, their families and the community.” Beneficiaries include the Child Abuse Prevention Center, The Phoenix House Poughkeepsie, D.A.R.E., St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dutchess & Orange County.
While the boys of summer swing away at Dutchess Stadium, O’Reilly is in charge of running the Pitch for Kids booth, which reaches out to the community, disseminates information about the program, and hosts carnival-like games for young baseball fans. O’Reilly handles cash, customer service, and personal interaction, while managing several other interns. She also lends her skills to special Renegades events, such as homerun derbies.
